  • In-depth knowledge of domestic violence and stalking issues, including ‘honour’-based abuse and killings
  • Specialist experience of working with individuals experiencing problems with mental health, alcohol or drugs, and vulnerable individuals, including children

  • Active in the areas of current domestic abuse and violence research, legislation and guidance relating to adults and children

  • Extensive experience of partnership working with the main agencies likely to be involved in the domestic homicide review, including the emergency services, social services, charities, the NHS and Safer Communities Partnerships and an understanding of their discipline regimes, roles and context of their involvement in the process of domestic homicide reviews
  • Understanding of the responsibilities of the Community Safety Partnership (CSP), Review Panel and Independent Review Panel Chair
  • Management expertise, including complex project management at local, national and international level

Dr Khan has over 20 years’ experience of developing and managing violence and abuse research projects. She is Director of Honour Abuse Research Matrix and Deputy Lead of the Centre for Criminal Justice Research at the University of Central Lancashire, where she is a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Psychology.

She collaborates with local and national organisations, including local and county councils, charities, NGOs, and governmental representatives. She is Academic Partner on the Lancashire Partnership against Domestic Abuse steering group and is a Domestic Homicide Review Chair and Author for Safer Leicestershire Partnership.

Dr Khan has authored 45 peer-reviewed academic/scientific articles and research reports, 5 book chapters, two domestic abuse policy guidance documents and delivered 20 invited keynote national/international presentations on her research findings.
